Why Most Local Business Websites Fail (And Why Wix Won't Fix It)
Most local business websites fail because they were never built to bring in customers. They were built to exist. Someone needed a website, so they grabbed a template, filled in the blanks, and called it done.
That is not the same thing as a site that gets you calls.
Wix and Squarespace get blamed a lot, and I get why. But the platform is rarely the real problem. I have seen plenty of Wix sites that rank and convert just fine, and plenty of custom built sites that do nothing. The platform is the car. The problem is usually that nobody is driving.
What breaks these sites
Most local business sites are missing the same handful of things. No clear reason to call today instead of tomorrow. No proof that this business is good at what it does, like real reviews or real before and after work. No content that answers the questions people are typing into Google before they ever pick up the phone. And no plan for what happens after launch, because a website is not a one time project. It needs new content and attention on a regular basis or it goes stale. A template can hold all of that. But somebody still has to put it there and keep it fresh. That is the part that gets skipped.
I talk to business owners all the time who think their next move is rebuilding on a different platform. Nine times out of ten, that is not the fix. If your Wix site has no content strategy behind it, your new site on a fancier platform will have no content strategy behind it either. You will have just spent money to have the same problem with a different login screen.
What moves the needle
Fix the site you have before you tear it down. Add real content that answers real questions your customers are asking. Get your reviews current, since twelve reviews from the last six months carry more weight with Google than forty from three years ago. Make it painfully obvious how to contact you, right at the top of the page.
If you have done all that and the site is still not producing, then it might be time to talk about a rebuild. But start with the boring stuff first. It is usually the boring stuff that was missing.
If you want a second set of eyes on your site, I will look at it and tell you straight. No cost and no pressure. Grab the free 90 Day Growth Plan at /contact and I will send over exactly what I would fix first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Wix bad for local business SEO?+
No. Wix sites can rank and convert fine. The platform is rarely what holds a site back. Missing content, thin proof, and no plan after launch are the real problems.
Why does my website get no calls?+
Usually because there is no clear reason to call now, no proof the business is good, and no content answering what people search before they call.
Should I rebuild my website on a new platform?+
Not first. If there is no content plan behind the current site, the new one will have the same problem. Fix content, reviews, and contact clarity before you rebuild.
How recent do my Google reviews need to be?+
Recent matters more than plentiful. Twelve reviews from the last six months usually help more than forty from three years ago.
